FYRSKEPPET – Sydostbrotten

folderSydostbrotten is the debut release from Fyrskeppet, the latest project from Sweden’s Daniel Westerlund. Daniel has previously been heard as part of The Goner and all of E Gone, whose latest cassette on Zeon Light came out earlier this year.

Fyrskeppet marks a move away from the celebratory psych of E Gone towards a more reflective ambient and drone-based meditation on oceans, elemental dangers and abysses, refracted through the lense of life aboard Swedish lightships.

The album is available now on cd from the Awkward Formats store, or digitally through Baboom and other suppliers.

Hybernation – Bastion

x-default Bastion is the latest release from Stuart Bowditch in his Hybernation incarnation. Most recently heard on his Hibernate cd The Old Waterworks, Bastion continues Stuart’s creation of music and soundscapes from found sounds and environmental ambience.

Made entirely from recordings made during an artist residence at Landguard Fort, Essex, in 2011, the collected sounds were edited and used to compose a 35 minute piece, coloured by the emotions, experiences and knowledge gained throughout the residency. As with much of his recent work Stuart used only these sounds to compose the work, some left largely unprocessed and some heavily effected.

Bastion comes in an edition of 50 cassettes, housed in a slip case within a double-sized outer sleeve. The second slip case contains four fold-out inserts, lavishly illustrated with photographs from the fort and its surroundings.

Bastion will be released on the 19th of October, available exclusively through the website. Copies are £7.50 plus p&p.

New releases

Two new vinyl releases are on the way. Vowels from Dag Rosenqvist is at the pressing plant, and expected in October. Slightly further away is the long-awaited collaboration between Amanda Feery and Michael Tanner, To Run The Easting Down. Meanwhile, we have several releases in the works. A tape from Hybernation is almost ready; a cd from Daniel Westerlund’s latest project Fyrskeppet has been mastered beautifully by Antony Ryan at RedRedPaw; and Richard Moult is working on The Machair That Covers The Saints, the first of a trilogy of albums.
